The Scent Edit: Floral

Last month I was going through my fragrance shelf and noticed that I have a type when it comes to floral scents. So of course I had to shoot & write about them for you. I will eventually build on this with my other go-to scents but let’s start at floral.

FL/18 by A.N OTHER (shop here)

This is my newest fragrance but it was love at first spray. My favourite type of floral scent is one that has something deeper to it, something spiced or earthy added in there and this one hits the nail on the head.

This is described as a leathery floral and I wouldn’t disagree with that. If this scent was a person it would be a woman has a favourite vintage leather jackets, lights her house only with candles, clips flowers from her neighbours gardens on her dusk walk.

The official notes are:
Top notes – Saffron, Cotton Candy, Elemi
Middle notes – Brazilian mate, Jasmine, Ambrette
Base notes – Leather, Cashmere Musk, Labdanum, Amberwood

This also gets a 10/10 for packaging for me.

Eau Capitale by DIPTYQUE (shop here)

This perfume made me excited to get ready and could be up there for my scent of the year. It is the sexiest floral scent I have ever smelt - hands down.

She has rose notes but if rose is not normally your thing do not overlook her. The other notes of Bergamot, Pink Peppercorns Patchouli work beautifully to create a deeper smokier, dark floral scent.

If this scent was a person she would definitely be an effortlessly undone Parisian who has napkins with traces of her red lipstick of the day on them.

Can’t go wrong with the beautiful packaging Diptyque does but especially love the smokey black glass on this one.

LÉAU by CHLOE (shop here)

If you are heading into spring/summer this is such a lovely floral scent. She is one of the lighter and fresh floral scents in my edit.

The notes are Magnolia & Jasmine, Rose, Oakmoss, Grapefruit & Lychee, Amber, Cedar & Musk. The non-floral notes really brighten this scent. You get the freshness of the grapefruit & lychee with the depth of the woody notes & musk.

If this scent was a person she would be wearing vintage 501’s, fresh magnolias in her kitchen while she bakes a citrus tart for her girlfriends.

This packaging reminds me of my new Ferm Living glasses and the scent itself is pink so its a win-win!

AMYRIS FEMME Extract by MAISON FRANCIS KUKDJIAN (shop here)

I am going to be honest, if I hadn’t been sent this in PR it wouldn’t have been a brand I would have known about but I am so glad I did. This is a luxury perfume but a little goes a very long way.

This is a vibrant floral but woody scent but doesn’t read as dark & sexy as the Diptyque. Think more driftwood than fireplace burning. The notes are: Caribbean Amyris, Florentine iris, mandarin blossom, woody ambery accord and Egyptian jasmine absolute.

If this scent was a person she definitely wakes up early to go to the flower markets with a wicker basket with just lip balm & this fragrance on. She creates her own bouquets.

I know this is getting super picky but I wish the label was either printed on like some of their other fragrances. The label sticker is a heavy weight card so it looks luxe however it just makes me want to peel it off.

SOUQ by AYU (shop here)

Unlike the previous scents, this is a scented oil. If you are someone who travels (unlikely in the current climate) or someone who struggles to find a scent that sticks - scented oils may be the way to go.

Again we have a woody floral scent - what can I say, I like what I like. The notes of this scent are Rose, Jasmine, Musk & Sandlewood. Beautifully gentle.

If this scent was a friend, she would come over, give you really good advice, enjoy good bread with olive oil and surprise you with flowers when you’re down. She is present.

Love the simple and travel friendly packaging, I wish the scent name was on the bottle because I want to grow my collection and would be worried about confusing which is which.

Do you have a type when it comes to floral scents? If so, please let me know your favourites!
